Altrincham Market House

A food hall and market turned cultural meeting point for Trafford's creative community.

Altrincham Market House is one of the region’s great regeneration success stories. Once a quiet market square, it’s now a lively mix of independent food, drink and creative businesses that’s helped put Trafford firmly on the cultural map.

Open six days a week, the Market House buzzes with activity, artisan food traders inside, craft stalls and flower sellers outside, and a steady rhythm of live music, open mic nights and design markets throughout the year. Sunday markets bring together artists, ceramicists and small publishers from across Greater Manchester.

Beyond food, it’s become a social and cultural hub. Talks, book swaps, charity fundraisers and creative pop ups take place in the communal dining area, while nearby businesses often host art exhibitions and small gigs. The venue’s community noticeboard is filled with flyers for everything from yoga to queer friendly writing groups.

The shared dining tables and low lit decor give it a relaxed, collective feel, strangers talk, ideas spark, and it all feels very Mancunian. It’s not just about what’s on the plate, it’s about what’s shared around it.
