Band on the Wall

A legendary music venue where Manchester's global sound and inclusive spirit come alive.

Band on the Wall is one of Manchester’s oldest and most iconic live music venues, yet it feels as fresh and welcoming as ever. Set in the Northern Quarter, it’s been at the centre of the city’s cultural heartbeat for over 200 years, once a pub with musicians literally playing on the wall, now a modern, community owned venue that celebrates diversity in every note.

What sets Band on the Wall apart is its genuine global reach and open minded programming. It has hosted everyone from Joy Division to Erykah Badu, and today, it’s a stage for new and underrepresented voices, including LGBTQ+ musicians and collectives. The venue regularly partners with events like Queer Contact, LGBT Foundation’s SoundCheck Sessions, and Manchester Pride’s Fringe, spotlighting queer talent and creating safe spaces on the dancefloor.

The newly expanded venue includes a bright cafe bar that’s open during the day for coffee, lunch or a post gig pint, with food influenced by the city’s diverse flavours. The staff and crowd are as friendly as you’ll find anywhere in Manchester, gig goers of all ages and backgrounds chatting like old friends.

Band on the Wall is more than a music venue, it’s a home for musical curiosity and community connection. Its Brighter Sound education programme supports young people and LGBTQ+ creatives to develop their art, while its gig nights continue to prove what Manchester has always known, that music is for everyone, no exceptions.
