Manchester Museum

A reimagined museum dedicated to inclusivity, storytelling and care for people and planet.

Manchester Museum, part of The University of Manchester, has recently undergone a major transformation and the result is breathtaking. Reopened with a new mission of building understanding between cultures, the museum has redefined what a museum can be, open, ethical and deeply inclusive.

The new Hello Future galleries centre marginalised voices and lived experiences, giving space to communities that have long been left out of traditional museum narratives. Its South Asia Gallery, created in collaboration with local communities, includes queer South Asian stories and celebrates intersectional heritage. During Pride and LGBT History Month, the museum runs talks, film nights and creative workshops exploring identity, gender and belonging.

The museum cafe and gift shop are welcoming and bright, often buzzing with students, families and curious visitors. You can grab a local roasted coffee, admire art made by young Manchester creatives, or join an open discussion about decolonisation and inclusion.

Manchester Museum’s heart lies in its commitment to care, for people, planet and community. With gender neutral toilets, quiet spaces and relaxed visiting hours, it’s designed for everyone to feel comfortable. It’s not just a museum of things, it’s a museum of people, proudly representing the diverse, queer, creative Manchester that surrounds it.
