HOME Manchester

Manchester's creative hub for film, art and performance with a proudly inclusive spirit.

HOME Manchester isn’t just a building, it’s a community, a place where creativity, identity and belonging come together under one roof. Sitting proudly on Tony Wilson Place, it’s named after one of Manchester’s great cultural champions, and it’s become a landmark for everyone who believes art should reflect real life in all its colours. Whether you’re here for an arthouse film, a bold new theatre production, or a powerful exhibition, HOME is where Manchester’s creative energy truly lives.

The venue has long championed LGBTQ+ stories and artists. Every year it partners with the SCENE: Manchester LGBTQ+ Film & TV Festival, bringing together filmmakers and audiences for screenings, talks and networking that celebrate queer lives on screen. HOME has shown everything from Andrew Haigh’s “All of Us Strangers” and “Blue Jean” to drag-inspired short film showcases and documentaries exploring trans and non-binary identity. In the theatre, productions like “Sound Cistem”, “Mother’s Ruin: A Cabaret About Gin”, and “OutStageUs” have brought raw queer humour, heart and defiance to the stage. Its gallery has hosted thought-provoking exhibitions such as the Manchester Open, where local LGBTQ+ artists stand proudly alongside emerging talent from across the region.

Beyond the screen and stage, HOME is also a social hub. Its bar and restaurant serve locally sourced food, great coffee and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The terrace is one of the city’s best-kept secrets for a sunny afternoon drink, often buzzing before Pride weekend or after Queer Contact events. Inside, the cafe is a space where students, artists and locals mix easily, you’ll often see people writing scripts, chatting over lunch or catching a quick espresso before a film. The staff are friendly, down to earth and genuinely make everyone feel welcome, whether you’re a regular or just popping in.

HOME isn’t just about art, it’s about connection, conversation and community. It’s proudly inclusive, with relaxed screenings, gender-neutral toilets and a genuine commitment to accessibility. If Manchester had a cultural living room, this would be it, warm, open and always full of life.
