The Edge

Contemporary arts, performance, and wellbeing centre overlooking the River Douglas.

The Edge is one of those venues that quietly does everything — theatre, music, community projects, and wellness classes all under one roof. Purpose-built and fully accessible, it’s a light-filled, eco-friendly space run by Wigan Youth Zone and local charities. By day, you might find yoga, art therapy, and creative writing workshops; by night, theatre, comedy, or film screenings with local talent front and centre. The staff have built a reputation for warmth and care, creating an environment that’s open to all ages and backgrounds. LGBTQ+ visitors are welcomed wholeheartedly, with events celebrating Pride and safe-space sessions for young creatives. The cafe’s excellent — local cakes, good coffee, and plenty of chat — and the riverside terrace is perfect in summer. The Edge isn’t just a venue, it’s a hub for connection and wellbeing, making culture feel personal and accessible to everyone in Wigan.
